Oregon Advantage

The Oregon Advantage[divider]

Oregon is uniquely poised to fill the utility-scale testing needs of the industry with its tremendous ocean energy resource, available infrastructure, technical expertise and political support:

Natural Assets: Oregon has 300 miles of coastline that are characterized by powerful waves and steady and constant winds.

Infrastructure in Place: Oregon has strong port infrastructure and available electrical grid capacity. The proximity of manufacturing operations to the Oregon coast and well-developed transportation systems make it optimal for early stage technology developers looking to test and develop in the same location. The Stateʼs renewable energy policies are strong and produce a climate friendly to clean technology and renewable energy.

Abundant Clean Energy: Recent studies by the Electric Power Research Institute conclude that wave resources could provide up to 500 megawatts (MW) of energy off the Oregon coast. As compared to other renewable generation assets, ocean energy has the potential to be highly predictable, which enhances its value to the utility industry and its customers. The reliability of the ocean as an energy resource could reduce the costs associated with integrating the energy into the grid.
