The wave energy device, developed by Columbia Power, will be used in 2016 for a minimum of 12 months.

The deal follows 10,000 hours of in-water scaled prototype testing and Columbia Power will pocket $3m in funding from the Naval Facilities and Engineering Command for the project.

The deployment will follow design certification, validation of the Stingray power take-off system and the testing of structural components, which will take place at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Colorado.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Siemens would provide a rotary generator for the Stingray.
